Why are wome...I always ask audiences this question? Why are women dying in such numbers? Answer... women are not dying of diseases we cannot treat, they are dying because society has decided that they are not worth treating. I heard this when I was in Uganda. It's about the status of women in developing countries. They are often valued by the number of babies they produce. They are disempowered, feel they have no worth and accept death as a consequence of pregnancy. As I write this, I am on my way to Sierra Leone and Liberia so that we can set up midwifery training programmes. We are carrying enough medications to save over 4000 women from hemorrhaging to death. The medication for each woman is about 50p UK money..about 75cents US. It makes me very angry! Thank you for your interest and comments.
