Let's discuss something

I want to know exactly what my readers think of the homebirth system in the USA. Do you think changes need made? What would YOU like to see? Do you think safe birthing practices should be the priority or should access to midwifery come first (You can only choose one)? Please pass this page around so we can find out exactly what people think.

Perhaps we can all work together to increase access to SAFE midwives!

I'm shocked.

Possibly it's a eurotrash thing.

I expect people doing medical jobs to have medical training and be accountable.

I don't think it is appropriate that a lack of uniform, medical training means women have to approach midwives as though they were used car salesmen, ie buyer beware.

A single standard of midwife education, at the level or certified nurse midwifes or similar. Scrape other "midwife" accreditations.

I absolutely agree with Cal. Safe practices are FAR more important than access to midwives. One standard of education (and a high one at that) is far better than 'access.' If you go to a doctor, you know how much education they've had. If you go to a midwife, there's no guarantee of it.

Really, it's about which option is best for the child and mother - and I'm pretty sure that safety outranks simply being able to find a midwife.
