You were hurt!!!

So you had a hospital birth. It went great. You either did it totally unmedicated like you wanted with your husband/partner and doula right there or you had your epidural and relaxed until it was time to push or you had an emergency cesarean or had a planned cesarean. You are totally happy, things couldn't of gone better, you are healthy- maybe a tad sore, baby is healthy. No reason to gripe. Right??

Well, guess what?? You have been harmed, but, you just don't know it yet. If you didn't do it all naturally at home, then your birth was absolutely horrible. You were spine raped if you had an epidural and abdominally raped if you had a c-section. The homebirth advocates want you to realize you are a traumatized victim, so that you will wisen up and follow them! The fact is all hospital births are horrible and nothing bad ever happens at home!! How wonderful for them to tell you how you feel about your birth experience!

Love it! Nothing good ever happens in the hospital, like lives being saved and stuff!! Great post :)

Wow. Just wow. I totally agree with you! I have had 2 c-sections (one emergency, one due to high-risk status), and BOTH were anything but "horrible". Some people have no idea what they are talking about (including some people I know, who felt sorry for me. Wtf? I'm healthy, feel great, baby is great...??). Anyway, good post. I'll be back to visit your blog again! :-)

I've come to respect this truth about women's birthing experiences: their perception of how it went is their reality and no one can invalidate that without being judgmental or cruel. In the case of bad occurrences, I sometimes find that a little knowledge can help gain a better perspective. However, with positive hospital OR home birth experiences, I say, "Great! Good for you!" And I leave it be.

We just had our tenth little one two weeks ago. We had her in hospital, just like we had eight of our other babies.

My labour was incredibly short, and lasted less than 1.5 hours. Baby Girl came through beautifully, event though she was posterior, it didn't stop her, and she was born very quickly.

I also had a PPH, but it was a small one, and it was handled beautifully and for that I am most thankful. I am so glad to have been in the hospital.

Oh and we watched The BOBB, one of the nurses told us we should watch it. She teaches a class to nurses at the local college here, and she has them watch BOBB, and she has them read Ina May's books, and then they talk about what's wrong with them. LOL I thought it was so cool to think that this kind of great education is occurring right here in our smallish prairie region! :)

Seems like idiocy to imply that someone was harmed if they don't think they're harmed. Of my four children the first was a section (in hospital, obviously) which gave me PTSD - not just due to the surgery but other factors as well. My first VBAC (in hospital) went horribly. I truly felt more violated than I did when I was raped - yay, more PTSD. My second VBAC was in hospital but through birth center CNMs and was wonderful. Yeah, I had two really crappy hospital experiences but I also had a great one. Granted for my fourth child I went on to have a homebirth (with a CNM) but, still, I can honestly say that, if you choose your caregiver wisely, hospital birth can be good, too.
